How will the Semiconductor Industry Achieve Net Zero by 2050? LCY’s Dual Cycle Circular Economy Model is Here to Help

2024-04-14

As the world collectively faces the challenges and risks brought on by climate change, countries around the world, including Taiwan, have pledged to achieve the goal of net zero by 2050. In other words, industries must minimize man-made greenhouse gas emissions and offset emissions with methods such as negative emissions technologies and carbon sinks.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese industries are taking transformation challenges head-on, particularly in green transformation solutions such as waste management and energy & resource management. Green transformation is not only a commitment to our environment, but also an important economic driver for Taiwan’s global competitiveness.

LCY’s Sustainable 6R Strategy Drives Green Transformation

Major global brands are placing great emphasis on ESG issues, as a result, suppliers are asked to implement a more proactive, quantifiable, and verifiable green management solution. Unsurprisingly, as the critical link in the global supply chain, Taiwan’s semiconductor and high-tech industries are committed to realizing green transformation through any viable channel.

As a key materials supplier, LCY Chemical Corp. (hereinafter referred to as LCY) is committed to becoming the global brands’ most trusted green materials supplier through the formulation of LCY’s “Sustainable 6R Strategy” based on innovative resource renewal solutions.

  • Recycling: EIPA Dual Cycle recycling process helps the semiconductor industry reduce waste to realize a circular economy.
  • Replace: Replace natural gas with renewable energy to reduce the reliance on natural gas and coal.
  • Reduce: Reduce water consumption through water recycling using membrane bioreactor (MB) technology
  • Repurpose: Excess energy such as steam purchased from steel manufacturers is repurposed for production use by LCY.
  • Recovery: TVP (green rubber) facilitates the production of lighter electric vehicles and recycling, enhancing energy efficiency
  • Renewable: the use of bio-succinic acid significantly reduces ocean waste, food packaging waste, and the impact on the environment.
  • Proprietary Dual Cycle Circular Economy Model Helps the Semiconductor Industry Achieve Net Zero

LCY is committed to implementing the 6R Strategy and assisting Taiwan’s semiconductor and high-tech industries with green production. As a niche supplier of EIPA for under-5nm advanced process technology, LCY’s, also known as one of the top semiconductor chemical suppliers, innovative proprietary “EIPA Dual Cycle Circular Economy Model” recycles and distills used isopropyl alcohol (UIPA) to once again become EIPA (Electronic-grade Isopropyl Alcohol, an IPA Chemistry used during semiconductors’ cleaning process), replacing the traditional method of UIPA elimination through combustion.

  • First Cycle: IPA Chemical Cycle

Assist semiconductor manufacturers to collect UIPA, which can be completely recycled into industrial-grade IPA, then distilled to become EIPA to be once again used by the semiconductor manufacturers.

  • Second Cycle: Water Cycle

Water from the waste effluent is completely recycled and collected for industrial use by LCY factories, achieving the goal of zero liquid discharge.

Proprietary Dual Cycle Circular Economy Model Helps the Semiconductor Industry Achieve Net Zero

Over the years, the EIPA Dual Cycle Circular Economy Model has received several awards in recognition of our commitment to the environment, including: the 2017 TCIA Circular Economy Contribution Award, the 2019 UMC Triple R Most Outstanding Vendor Award, 2020 Micron Taiwan Outstanding Vendor in Waste Management Performance, and two-star circular economy rating from the Environmental Protection Agency, MOEA for 2020.

Circular economy model as a part of the green transformation strategy is critical to realize net zero. As a Taiwanese company, LCY’s global presence and our industry-leading high-purity Electronic-grade IPA technology enhance the semiconductor supply chain resiliency.
